The grape is very expressive of its terroir and it is well-known for its firm tannins which in some styles can suck the moisture completely out of your mouth. Nebbiolo also benefits from time to mature, 30 years is not uncommon!\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHowever this Barolo from Casali del Barone is only six years old but has been made in a style to be drunk reasonably young. It has been loved throughout the vinification process using hand-picked, hand-selected grapes, temperature controlled fermentation and matured for 38 months with 18 months in oak.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhat matters though is the taste, we were immediately excited by the wonderful perfume particularly of roses, herbs and cranberries, followed by more red fruits, plums, raspberries with wood smoke and sweet spice on the palate. The tannins in this case were very approachable yet still maintaining a strong core.
