Nero d`Avola and Shiraz make reliable, fleshy red wines, whilst Grillo, Inzolia and Chardonnay yield surprisingly well balanced and flavourful white wines. However, it is the uniquely rich and mineral influenced dessert wines that are perhaps Sicily`s greatest contribution to the wine world, from Marsala to Moscato di Pantelleria and Malvasia.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eProducerThe winery is located in Messina, run by oenologist Piero Colosi, who with his father Peter, oversee all aspects of winemaking. They have been producing the Malvasia delle Lipari since 1987 with grapes from their 7 hectare farm in Lipari, a small island in the Eolian Archipelago which is noted for its exposure and the volcanic nature of the soil which is particularly good for vine cultivation. The establishment of the vineyard has been done `terraces` style with each terrace finished off by a old dry stone wall.
