Sans Imperial makes its third appearance on our shelves and afirst for Adelphi. Almost exclusively released via independents, despite being established in 1897, by the 1970s (when single malts were just starting to become popular), the managers had dedicated the operation to filling blends. Ironically, when the single malt market came of age in the early 1990s, Imperial was closed! After changing owners several times, the distillery was finally demolished in 2013. Reports have it that remaining stocks are now genuinely low. No surprise that investors are catching on. Selected to be part of Adelphi’s 30th Birthday releases, representing the best of the best from their extensive cask holdings, the outturn was 187 bottles. Matured in an x-Bourbon barrel, the style here is described as sweet, luscious, quite tropical and sometimes grassy. 52.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Collectable.
