Sans Chateau Tanunda is one of Barossa’s most impressive pieces of architecture. The Chateau was built in 1890 by a group of Adelaide businessmen who sought to capitalize on the shortfall of grapes from European Vineyards due to the impact of the phylloxera. 560 of Barossa’s top growers were contracted by the company for a 10 year period, ensuring a steady stream of grapes and wine for the European market. The building was modelled on the grand buildings of Hamburg of the 1850’s and 1870’s and has undergone extensive renovations from 1998, when it was purchased by the Geber family.

Tasting Notes: Totally opaque, with black crimson hue and paint like cling to the wine glass walls. Perfumed nose of spice, violets, vanilla, confectionary and white pepper. The palate flavours are generous, displaying a classic voluptuous Barossa Shiraz. Flavours of cherry, spice and ripe plum. Perfect balance, with fine tannins. Long aftertaste of liquorice, spice, cherry, plum and chocolate. Cellar 3-4 years (2008-2009)Alc./Vol.14.5%
