Sans The History of Chateau Suduirat can be traced to 1580 when Nicole d’Allard was married to Leonard de Suduiraut. The estate was next inherited by Joseph du Roy, who renamed it Ancien Cru du Roy. So it remained for over two hundred years until, in 1831, Nicolas Edme Guillot purchased the estate and reclaimed the name Suiderat (although Ancien Cru du Roy still appears the label). Under Guillot’s stewardship (and for the next two generations) the chateau excelled, until 1929, when lax practises by the next generation saw the estate near bankruptcy. In 1940 Suduirat was sold to the industrialist Leopold-Francois Fonquernie, and the wines gradually returned to their former glory.
