It’s similar in age to the Glenrothes except this time matured in an Oloroso American oak butt instead of European oak.The result is a softer wine input that pairs with MacDuff’s slightly lighter spirit. Rich and malty on the nose, a lovely nutty sherry influence here, too, of the Amontillado kind (even though it’s oloroso finished). Full bodied, unpretentious, leaning towards fruit’n’nut dark chocolate on the palate, thick with chewy choc-malt presence supported by balanced heat, slow burn oak and a flurry of spices. One for lovers of beefy-textured Highlanders. This distillery is rarely high on complexity, however for sheer weight and delivery, Lady of the Glen offer one of the more impressive Macduffs to date.
