Sans Along with Chateau Lafite and Chateau Latour, Chateau Calon Segur was once owned by Nicolas-Alexandre Marquis de Segur, the trio of assets earnt him the nickname ‘Prince of the Vineyardsâ€? This noble man and vigneron once stated, “I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calonâ€? Evidently, he ranked Calon-Segur amongst the best of his crus. Today, Calon-Segur’s 2nd wine is named Marquis de Calon to commemorate this illustrious proprietor of yesteryear. The 2009 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, entirely hand-harvested and fermented over a month. The ensuing maturation was spent in barrels with 40% new oak over 24 months.
