Winemaker Abel Mendoza is something of an enigma. A perfectionist with no ambition to seek out fame and fortune. As such he spends no energy (or money) on marketing and has an aversion to anything related to wine guides, events and media. Instead he prefers to concentrate all his efforts on winemaking and tending to his vineyards. This means that his wines remain relatively unknown here in the UK – yet in Rioja his status is somewhat legendary.
