This cuvée of the little known Italian white variety Ribolla Gialla comes from nineteen-year-old vines in the Napa Valley. One of very few plantings of this variety found anywhere in the States, the site was populated with cuttings taken from renowned Friuli vintner Josko Gravner’s vineyard. Practically singing with notes of green fruit and almond, this white was aged in neutral French oak for 10 months. A thoroughly gastronomic white, this wine will match perfectly white fish dishes or soft cheeses. A Californian take on a classic Italian varietal.
92/100 – The 2023 Ribolla Bengier Vineyard is a pretty powerful wine. Today, the tannins are especially prominent. Dried orchard fruit, mint, spice and white pepper are all beautifully delineated. I would give this a few years in bottle as it is quite reticent today. Varietal character feels a bit hushed in 2023, but this is still quite attractive. – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
92/100 – The 2023 Ribolla Gialla Bengier Vineyard comes from vines planted in 2001 with cuttings from Gravner in Friuli. Grapes were harvested October 11, and the wine was matured for 10 months in used French oak. The nose is a kaleidoscope of appley fruit, beeswax, almonds, acacia and bitter citrus. The light-bodied palate is concentrated and textural with mouth-coating, honeyed flavors, soft, juicy acidity and a very long finish. – Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate
