Founded in 1913, Barros is a house synonymous with tradition and quality, recognised for producing characterful Ports that age beautifully. The 2012 vintage in the Douro was marked by a cool spring and hot summer, leading to smaller yields but grapes of excellent concentration and freshness. This has resulted in a classic, structured wine with depth and poise.

Tasting NotesA deep ruby-purple colour in the glass. The bouquet is fragrant with notes of ripe blackberry, dark cherry and plum, supported by layers of cocoa, violets and exotic spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet balanced, showing vibrant fruit wrapped in firm but refined tannins. The finish is long and persistent, revealing hints of liquorice and dark chocolate.

Food PairingDecant before serving. Ideal with rich blue cheeses, dark chocolate desserts, or enjoyed on its own as a meditative glass after dinner.

Cellaring PotentialApproachable in youth after long decanting, but will continue to develop complexity and elegance over the next 15–20 years.
