Get to know: Maison Brotte Les Eglantiers Rose AOC Tavel

Tasting Note

This Tavel Rosé wine is a serious step up from your typical pale pink sipper. Bursting with juicy red berries, wild strawberry, and a touch of peach and violet, it’s got richness, freshness, and a gentle tartness that keeps you coming back for more. The deep colour hints at what’s to come – fuller-bodied and more intense than most French rosé wine, but still easy and elegant with a smooth, plump finish.

Food pairings for Tavel rosé?

  • Try it with a Vietnamese rice noodle salad (vegan-friendly, loads of fresh herbs and zing)
  • A cheesy aubergine parmigiana
  • Or aged goat’s cheese for something a bit fancy.

This one’s made for summer lunches that linger into the evening.

Kate Says

“This is rosé with backbone. It’s got all the summer vibes – juicy, chilled, and refreshing – but there’s depth here too. If you’ve only had the light stuff before, this is a cracking introduction to Tavel AOC rosé. It’s proof that pink wine can be proper wine. Definitely one for the curious, and a bottle I keep going back to when the sun’s out.”

Producer Info

Maison Brotte winery has been crafting Rhône wines since 1931, rooted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and now run by the fourth generation. With a deep respect for the land, Brotte follows sustainable French wine practices and is certified Terra Vitis – meaning they farm with nature in mind, from soil to cellar.

For this Grenache Syrah rosé blend, everything is done to coax out flavour while keeping things fresh. Grapes are hand-picked, gently macerated with the skins for a fuller colour and extra texture, then pressed and fermented cool in stainless steel tanks. No malolactic fermentation here – that’s what keeps it crisp. A short ageing on fine lees adds that signature smoothness before bottling in early spring.

The result? A Tavel AOC rosé that’s fuller-bodied than your average pink, with structure, elegance, and proper food-friendly clout. It’s no wonder Tavel’s often called the “king of rosés” – and this might just be the best Tavel rosé to try if you’re new to the style.
