From the first glance, one can tell that Charles Chevallier and Éric de Rothschild’s team were able to take full advantage of the favourable conditions of the summer – which amply made up for a more than mitigated spring. The colour is indeed dark, almost black, with purple reflections that give the impression that it is in motion. One is gently enveloped by the subtle fragrances of a bouquet bursting with ripe black fruits, violets and the cocoa notes from the long ageing in new barrels. The palate leaves a feeling of total fullness, as the wine is powerful, voluminous, round, harmonious and full. Obviously, the tannins are present and strong; but they maintain a smooth texture, with a fine liveliness in the background, which underlines the long, tasty and spicy finish, where fruit is once again found.
