The Château Larrivet Haut-Brion is an aged Bordeaux wine from the 1966 vintage that offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, crafted during a time before the official creation of the Pessac-Léognan AOC. The 1966 vintage was marked by a warm growing season, yielding structured, age-worthy wines.

Tasting notes:On the nose, expect delicate notes of dried tobacco, cedarwood, and aged leather, lifted by hints of stewed red fruit and earthy forest floor. The palate reveals refined tannins, a surprisingly persistent acidity, and flavours of dried cherry, truffle, and spice. Mature and contemplative, it’s best enjoyed now.

The estate’s origins date back to 1840, initially known as Château de Canolle. It underwent several name changes—La Rivette, Brion-Larrivet—before being renamed Château Larrivet Haut-Brion in 1874 by then-owner Ernest Laurent, a Bordeaux wine merchant. The inclusion of “Haut-Brionâ€?in the name led to legal disputes with the renowned Château Haut-Brion, resulting in a compromise that allowed the name provided “Haut-Brionâ€?appeared at the end.
