Chateau Suduiraut, rooted in a legacy dating back to the late 16th century, stands as a symbol of Sauternesâ€?rich winemaking history. Established in 1580 upon the marriage of Nicole d’Allard and Léonard de Suduiraut, the estate’s journey saw its important moment in 1855 when it was classified as a Premier Cru during The Official Bordeaux wine classification. Acquired by AXA Millésimes in 1992, the estate has undergone a revitalisation, preserving its esteemed tradition while unlocking its full viticultural potential. Today their sweet wines are amongst some of the best in the region widely considered under valued for their continual high ratings from critics.rrSituated in the Preignac commune within the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux, the vineyards of Château Suduiraut span 91 hectares of land with gravelly, sandy clay soils. Certified High Environmental Value (HEV 3), the estate’s terroir captures the sun’s warmth, aiding in the rapid maturation of grapes and bestowing upon the wine its exceptional opulence. The thin, water-retentive soil drives low yields, intensifying grape qualities while compelling the vines to draw nutrients from deep within, fostering a stronger expression of minerality in the wine.rrCharacterised by high vine density and an average vine age of 35 years, alongside environmentally conscious viticultural practices such as short pruning and soil tilling, Chateau Suduiraut emphasises the meticulous selection of the finest botrytised bunches during harvest. This dedication ensures that the Grand Vin is crafted solely from the vineyard’s most exemplary bunches.rrWeather: The 2010 vintage for Sauternes was superb. Despite conditions generally not being conducive to the development of noble rot â€?the summer was baking hot and bone dry â€?the vintage pulled through remarkably well. rrTechnical Information: rGrape Varieties:90% Sémillon & 10% Sauvignon BlancrRegion: BordeauxrSub Region: SauternesrAlcohol: 14 %rAgeing: 20 months in oak barrels (50% new & 50% one year)rBottling date: August 3rd 2012rTotal acidity: 3.6g/lrClosure: CorkrDrink: Now to 2035+rrTasting Note: The 2010 Suduiraut has an attractive bouquet with notes of Mirabelle, jasmine and saffron infusing the upfront honeyed fruit. This is no shy retiring wallflower. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, lightly spiced with a pleasant bitter note that lends tension on the finish. Good length, this is a very fine 2010 Sauternes. â€?Tasted by Neal Martin
