CVNE’s Monopole Gran Reserva is a wine defined by its history, being one of the first registered wines in all of Spain in 1915. Having fallen out of fashion and production over the course of the following decades, the cuvée was resurrected in 2014. Sourced entirely from the La Plana plot in CVNE’s estate vineyards, this dry-farmed. east-facing site yields a white of unsurpassed concentration and depth of flavour. Produced in-line with the ancestral techniques of Rioja, this white is fermented entirely in large format, used oak barrels before ageing for five years in sixth-use (or older) Rioja barrels. High-toned and aromatically complex, this white sings of dried stone fruit, citrus, and pastry. Fine and elegant on the palate, the long finish and refined salinity of this wine make it a terrifically gastronomic white. A truly sui generis gran reserva.
