Full tasting note and wine making /h2>

De Loach Heritage Collection Zinfandel The Central Coast fog extends the ripening on these Zinfandel grapes producing a wine that is rich with aromas of cherry and brambles with a hint of spice. On the palate, it has flavours of raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant and notes of star anise and white pepper. It is full bodied with soft tannins and has a lingering finish.

For the Heritage Reserve wines (previously the California series), De Loach combine their Russian River Valley grapes with those from selected growing regions in California to produce good value, approachable wines. Each is made and bottled at their estate facility. This Zinfandel was made from fruit grown in vineyards in the Central Coast appellations where the coastal fog and cool evenings create a good environment for extended ripening.

A pre-fermentation cold soak was followed by post-fermentation warm maceration which took place in stainless-steel tanks to extract good colour and ripe tannins. During fermentation, the cap was punched down by hand. The wine was aged mainly in stainless-steel tanks and a small portion was aged in 227 litre seasoned French oak barrels.

The producer /h2>

The winery and vineyards were originally owned and run by Cecil and Christine De Loach. In 2003, the family run Burgundian estate Jean-Claude Boisset purchased De Loach and brought the focus back to the estate’s original high-quality winemaking philosophy, with specific emphasis on small lot winemaking, particularly of Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. The winery’s 7-hectare estate vineyard has been completely restored and converted toorganic and biodynamic viticulture, a tradition upheld by many foremost Burgundian vineyards. The De Loach estate vineyards are certified organic by CCOF.
