This cuvée is a blend of 70% Grenache noir, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre from 50-years-old organically farmed vines, planted in iron-rich clay and gravelly soils. Stricter fruit selection and a longer maceration lend this cuvée more depth and concentration compared to their classic Vacqueyras. The old-vine Grenache character comes through beautifully here, with its intense aromas of ripe strawberry, cherry, sappy flowers, and Provençal herbs. A few years in bottle have brought extra forest floor complexity to the wine and polished its enveloping tannins. Medium to full bodied and elegant on the palate, with delicious savoury complexity. A step up in terms of complexity from the domaine’s excellent Vacqueyras cuvée.
