STORY BEHIND THE WINE
Nestled at the base of the Madeleine Mountains, the Côte Roannaise AOP spans 200 hectares and stands as one of the Loire Valley’s historic vineyard areas. These higher-altitude granitic soils, situated between 400 and 550 meters near the Massif Central, provide the ideal environment for Gamay Saint Romain to thrive.
The estate itself has deep roots, dating back to the 17th century and remaining in the same family for generations. When Stéphane Sérol assumed leadership in 1996, the domaine covered just 12 hectares. Passionate about the Côte Roannaise, he and his wife Carine expanded the vineyard by reclaiming prime hillside plots and replanting them. Together, they transitioned the domaine to organic practices and later embraced biodynamic farming, focusing on nurturing and highlighting the unique character of their terroirs. Today, a dedicated team of eight manages the estate year-round, with up to 15 people joining during the growing season. All harvesting is done by hand to ensure the highest quality.
