The Douro Valley has been the home of Port for centuries. More recently, many Quinta or wine estates have been turning their hand to making elegant and often long lived still red and white wine. Quinta da Pedra Alta is one of those producers. We have been very impressed with João Pires’ modern winemaking techniques, capturing the potential of still wines from this beautiful country.

The Quinta da Pedra Alta (high stone) winery is located in Soutelinho Favaios near Alijó, in the Cima Corgo sub-region of the Douro Valley, Portugal. Quinta da Pedra Alta is the only vineyard in the Douro to have three granite markers (Marcos Pombalinos) on its property. These were awarded to the best land during the demarcation of the Port region in 1761. Winemakers Matt Gant and João Pires share the same vision when it comes to making wines: they endeavour to find the essence of what the land has to offer.
