Founded in 1584, Gosset is the oldest winemaking House in the Champagne region. Production remained fairly low-key until 1994, when the House was sold to the family owned Renaud-Cointreau Group. This takeover saw an increased level of investment improve their vineyard management and fostered a doubling of Gosset’s annual production to nearly one million bottles in just fourteen years. Owning just a few vineyards, Gosset purchase nearly all of the grapes required for production. After sixteen generations in the famous village of Aÿ, the winery has only recently moved to a larger and new plot in Épernay.rrGosset’s vintage champagne is a low dosage (extra brut) blend that spends an average of eights ageing in the cellars. Gosset Grand Millésime Brut 2006 is the first product to use the new ultra-environmentally friendly foil caps recently introduced by Gosset.rrWeather: The 2006 vintage was a year of mixed weather. It began with a rainy spell and late spring, but with little or no frost in the vineyards. Early summer was positive, with the months of June and July creating perfect conditions for flowering. This has a lovely clean and defined palate of apple and citrus notes. Given time in the glass more pear and yellow plum flavours come forward. The finish has a hint of saltiness with fresh acidity that matches perfectly with delicate sea foods and pastas.
