This is 100% Sercial, the driest and most refreshing wine style, from the Islands of Madeira in Southern Portugal. It is one of the world’s most unique alcoholic drinks and one produced for centuries. The use of heat in the ageing process to mimic the travels the wine used to undertake on long journeys to the East, as early as the 15th Century, has a profound effect and adds complexity and character to the finished wine. Before the ageing of this bottle, the wine is fortified (the same as Port) before, in this wines case, a 15 year stay in barrel in the roof of the winery! The key to the joy of this wine, plenty of freshness cuts through the richer nut and orange peel palate. A wonderfully engaging wine that is balanced and very good with seafood.
