The house was founded in 1798 by Memmie Jacquesson. Jacquesson is small producer based in Dizy, just a short distance north east of Epernay. Production is around 280,000 bottles per annum and are made with 78% of grapes from their own 28 hectare estate, the rest is bought in from growers. The 28ha estate comprises 11ha in Avize and Oiry, some 13ha spread over Aÿ, Hautvillers, Dizy and Mareuil-su-Aÿ and a further 4ha in the Vallée de l’Ardre (a tributary of the Vesle, north-west of the Marne). In 1990 brothers Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet took over running the family business from their father and they soon started the transition to organic farming. The Jacquesson wines are typically fermented in old, large-sized oak foudre, though that yields little wood character to the wine. In 2022 the Chiquet brothers sold to Artémis Group, the investment company of the Pinault family; a group that operate across the broad spectrum of the luxury goods and services sector, owning brands like Christies, Puma, Ch. Latour and many more premium brands.rrThe red grapes come from chalk-rich vineyards in Aÿ, a Grand Cru, and Dizy and Hautvillers both Premiers Crus in the Marne and the Chardonnay comes from two Grand Crus in the Côte des Blancs, Avize and Oiry. Traditional growing techniques are employed with little or no soil enrichment whilst most treatments are organic. Harvest was carried out by hand between the 14th and 27th of September. The D.T. refers to Degorgement Tardive or late disgorgement, so this is the same blend as the regular release from Jaquesson, just kept on the lees for at least five additional years and the base year is the 2010 vintage.rrWeather: With the lowest temperatures since 1996, the first part of the year contrasted with the entire decade. Winter frosts and a cool spring were reminders of the vineyard’s northerly latitude. The summer was hot, but not excessively so, and infrequent rain confirmed a particularly dry year. Suddenly, in mid-August, everything changed. The equivalent of two months of rain fell in just two days. With the heat and the water, maturation was fast and generous, but the harvest began with botrytis mould attacking the Pinot Noir grapes. As in 1995, the grapes had an elevated balance, at the same time sweet and acidic, but some parcels had to be left out and others sorted in order to bring out the best in a vintage rich in contrasts.rrTechnical Information:rVineyards: 50% Grand Cru & 50% Premier Cru | Chardonnay: Avize & Oiry Pinot Noir: Ay, Dizy & HautvillersrGrape Varieties: 61% Chardonnay, 21% Meunier, 18% Pinot NoirrBase Vintage: 2010rLees Ageing: 8 yearsrDisgorged: June 2019rDosage: 0.75 g/l Extra BrutrProduction: 14,910 bottlesrAlcohol: 12.5%rDrink: Now for 3-4 yearsrrTasting Note: Fresh and vibrant, opening with notes of citrus peel, white flowers and orchard fruits, followed by more savoury, nutty flavours and a touch of spice on the racy finish.
