Ever had a Rotgipfler? If not, you must & this is a superb example. This super rare grape has about 100 hectares planted worldwide, most of which are in the Thermenregion, just south of Vienna. The 13 hectare silty loam and clay Satzing vineyard has a sunny & very warm exposed south-east facing slope, despite being 320 m asl. The Rotgipfler vines are over 40 years old, 20% is aged in old 700 ltr barrels for 17 months with the lees being stirred weekly to preserve the fruit and help it mature. Think yellow & exotic fruits, a delicate red soil earthiness & spice and glacial mintness.
