Joseph Krug founded the house in 1843 after learning winemaking at Champagne Jacquesson, driven to craft the finest champagne every year, regardless of climate. By honouring each vineyard’s individuality and creating a vast reserve library, he achieved his dream & Krug Grande Cuvée 1st Edition was born.rrIn the 1970s, Henri and Rémi Krug modernized production, acquired Clos du Mesnil, 1st vintage 1979, launched Krug Rosé in 1983 and purchased Clos d’Ambonnay in 1991, first vintage 1995. LVMH acquired Krug in 1999; Henri and Rémi stepped down in 2007. Since 2009, Olivier Krug, the sixth generation, is Director of Krug.rrIn 2024, Krug completed Joseph, its new state-of-the-art sustainable winery in the village of Ambonnay, awarded exceptional HQE certification.To the delight of collectors around the world, a very limited number of bottles of Krug Vintage are kept in ideal conditions in the House’s cellars. Krug Collection 1982 is time’s second revelation of Krug 1982.rrKrug 1982 is the result of blending opulent and powerful Pinot Noirs (54%), rich Chardonnays (30%) and spicy Meuniers (16%). Krug 1982 is on the full bodied side of Krug vintages, not as big as the 1959 or 1976; we see it more in the heritage of the renowned 1964 or even 1953. rrWeather: Probably one of the most generous yield in the history of Champagne, the year 1982 is a classic in terms of climate throughout the year. To the eye, it is elegant, lasting bubbles and fantastic colour, seemingly untouched by time. On the nose, mocha scents with hazelnut and an opulent rich maturity and depth, revealing a peppery tang. In the mouth, rich honey and crystallized fruit and hints of tropical fruit, mango and mild spices which slowly gain strength.
