Joseph Krug founded the house in 1843 after learning winemaking at Champagne Jacquesson, driven to craft the finest champagne every year, regardless of climate. By honouring each vineyard’s individuality and creating a vast reserve library, he achieved his dream & Krug Grande Cuvée 1st Edition was born.rrIn the 1970s, Henri and Rémi Krug modernized production, acquired Clos du Mesnil, 1st vintage 1979, launched Krug Rosé in 1983 and purchased Clos d’Ambonnay in 1991, first vintage 1995. LVMH acquired Krug in 1999; Henri and Rémi stepped down in 2007. Since 2009, Olivier Krug, the sixth generation, is Director of Krug.rrIn 2024, Krug completed Joseph, its new state-of-the-art sustainable winery in the village of Ambonnay, awarded exceptional HQE certification.Like Grande Cuvée, Krug Rosé is a multi-vintage blend. A relative newcomer first released in the 1980s, Krug Rosé NV is a ground-breaking champagne: the only prestige cuvée rosé to be blended from all three different grape varieties and from such a wide range of vintages. Pinot Noir grapes from the best hillside plots in Aÿ are fermented with their skins on for a few days. This fermentation extracts coloraturas and texture from the tennis and the red wine produced from this is then added to the rest of the blend and bottled in the spring following the harvest. Krug Rose is aged on the lees for at least six years, often nearer to ten. The texture of Krug Rose is unlike most other Rose Champagnes since it is fuller and more texturally pleasing due to the relatively high percentage of red wine used in the blend, this gives a greater colour and spice characteristic. rrKrug Rosé 20ème Édition is a blend of 66 wines from five different years, the youngest of which is from 2007 while the oldest dates back to 2002. The final composition is pinot noir (47%), chardonnay (37%) and pinot meunier (16%), with a touch of still pinot noir to add colour and structure. Reserve wines from the maison’s extensive library made up 32% of the final blend. For this vintage, cellar master Eric Lebel had to rethink the way Krug’s rosé champagne was created, using lesser-known parcels picked earlier to reveal powerful aromas and subtle flavours.rrKrug ID:216019 | Each bottle of Krug has a Krug ID on the back label which enables you to discover the story of that very bottle.
