Made by one of the most consistent and excellent estates in Bordeaux today, La Croix de Ducru-Beaucaillou is more than just a second wine, as it comes from a dedicated vineyard not used to produce Ducru-Beaucaillou grand vin. The vines are located further inland, close to Chateau Talbot. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the wine was aged in 60% new French oak barrels. At just over 10 years of age, this has now reached perfect maturity, with intriguing forest floor and spicy notes adding complexity to a core of dark, sweet fruit and spice. The soft tannins provide a welcome frame to the fruit as this lingers on the palate. A beautiful expression of Saint-Julien.

16.5+/20 �Sweet ink. Round and fresh and on the button. Firm structure and really juicy. Desperately needs food but the finish is also most impressive. �/em> Jancis Robinson
