Tasting Notes For Lapostolle Clos Apalta Red Blend 2021

The 2021 Clos Apalta is an inky, intense red with a violet rim, showcasing a classic Bordeaux‑style blend dominated by Carmenère, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. On the nose, it opens with layered aromas—red and black currants, plum jam, black cherries—interwoven with spicy notes like paprika, pink pepper, and an herbal core of sage, lavender, pine needles and garrigue. Subtle graphite and mineral undertones add complexity, while a flash of green bell pepper and fresh sage keeps the bouquet lively and elegant.

Silky yet muscular on the palate, it delivers concentrated dark fruit flavors—blackberry, plum and a hint of dark chocolate—complemented by coffee, tobacco, and savory herbs. The tannins are polished and finely grained, stretching into a lengthy, weightless finish that carries flavors of mocha, leather, forest pine, and black pepper.

Extremely aromatic with red currants, blackcurrants, spices, iodine, paprika and subtle hints of white pepper. Fresh flowers, fresh sage, lavender and some pine needles and sandalwood. Medium-bodied with perfectly integrated tannins that go on for minutes with refined and harmonious fruit that integrates beautifully into the wine, giving it a weightless structure that shows class and verve. Endless balance and length. It’s so balanced that you could drink it now but it will age for decades. A blend of 75% carmenere, 18% cabernet sauvignon and 7% merlot. Best after 2028.
