Founded in 1812, Champagne Laurent-Perrier remained a modest producer until Bernard de Nonancourt transformed it into one of the world’s most celebrated Champagne Houses. A towering figure in 20th-century Champagne, he became CEO in 1948 after a three-year apprenticeship at Delamotte and Lanson. Over his remarkable 62-year tenure, production expanded from 80,000 to more than eight million bottles.rrDe Nonancourt was a visionary innovator: Laurent-Perrier was the first House to adopt stainless-steel vats, to create a zero-dosage champagne (Ultra Brut), and to pioneer a multi-vintage prestige cuvée (Grand Siècle). Following his passing in 2010, the House has remained family-led under his daughters, Alexandra Pereyre and Stéphanie Meneux de Nonancourt, who appointed Stéphane Dalyac as CEO in 2014. In 2019, Alexandra’s eldest daughter, Lucie Pereyre de Nonancourt, joined the business to represent Grand Siècle around the world.rrToday, Laurent-Perrier stands among Champagne’s largest producers and is best known for its iconic Cuvée Rosé â€?the most recognised rosé champagne in the world. The House’s distinctive style is defined by freshness, purity, and precision, with a light reductive twist and elegant character its wines age with exceptional grace.rrHeritage is borne out of the savoir-faire of Grand Siecle: a complex blend of several vintages from the best crus of Champagne and two grape varieties. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Made exclusively with reserve wines selected for their freshness, elegance and complexity.rrWeather: r2014: The vintage was characterized by mild temperatures, frequent rainfall, and high temperatures, with good ripeness and acidity. Flowering began in June, and summer was a mix of dry, wet, and cold spells. Harvest took 8-20 September, with Chardonnay being the star.r2016: The vintage faced challenges including frost, low temperatures & disease pressure. August’s warm and dry conditions saved the crop, resulting in fruit-forward, lush wines with vibrant acidity.r2018: The Champagne region experienced a challenging climate, with cold temperatures in February and early sunshine in April. The summer was hot and dry, with harvest starting in August. Overall, all grapes performed well, setting a new benchmark of ripeness while maintaining acidity.r2019: The growing season faced challenges including budbreak, severe spring frosts, variable summer, and heatwaves. Warm weather in August and September brought concentration and richness, while cool nights helped retain acidity. Initial tasting confirmed good tension and fine purity, the next potential “super starâ€?vintage after 2012 and 2013.rrTechnical Information:rVineyards: 40 Crus | 50% Grand Cru, 33% Premier Cru and 17% Cru | Montagne inc Ambonnay & Bouzy | Aube | Sézanne and Les RiceysrGrape varieties: 55% Chardonnay & 45% Pinot NoirrReserve Wines: 100% (20% 2014, 20% 2016, 30% 2018 & 30% 2019)rLees Ageing: 3 yearsrDosage: 6 g/lrDisgorged: December 2023rDrink: Now 10 yearsrrTasting Note: A nose offering notes of lemon, white peach and fruits in syrup followed by aromas of toasted bread and toasted almonds.
