It has an intense ruby ​​color, pleasant on the nose for its fresh, vinous and fruity hints of plums and blackberries on a background of spicy notes. Juicy and medium-structured, on the palate it is dry, rightly soft, well balanced by the subtle fresh note and round tannins. Good length finish and excellent cleanliness and character.

Ciliegiolo – this grape is, according to the latest genetic analysis, a parent of Sangiovese, and it’s worth seeking out, in particular in its principal homes of the Maremma on the Tuscan coast and around Narni in southern Umbria.

The name translates as “cherry” and never has a grape been more accurately named: it’s cherry scented and crushed cherry flavoured – and a particular type of black cherry, not sweet but dark and fleshy.
