Facing east and south-east, white Premier Cru soils are mainly made of brown clay and limestone. Chassagne-Montrachet produces 70 hectares of premiers crus.rrVineyard: Morgeot is one of the top two or three 1er Crus (climats) of the village. ‘Clos de la Chapelleâ€?surrounds an old Chapelle. Domaine Duc de Magenta is a superb Domaine exclusively vinified and distributed by Louis Jadot on a long term contract basis. Inside the Morgeot 1er cru vineyard, Duc de Magenta owns the Monopoly (sole owner) of the ‘Clos de La Chapelleâ€?rrVinification & Maturation: Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels produced by the CADUS cooperage. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling. rrWeather in 2010: After a difficult and unpredictable 2010 vintage in Burgundy, Louis Jadot is pleased with the quality of the grapes harvested. Despite challenges such as a long cold winter, disrupted flowering, disease pressure, frost, and hail in some areas, careful vineyard management helped ensure healthy grape development. Favorable weather in September allowed harvesting to begin on 21 September under good conditions. Yields were relatively small, but grape quality—particularly in the Côte de Nuits—was strong. In the Côte de Beaune, careful sorting through the grapes was more necessary because rain had been more frequent here. Cool, saline notes dominate today, but there is more than enough fruit to allow the 2010 to develop beautifully in bottle over the coming years.
