Jean Francis Couteolou – or Jeff, for short – is one of France’s most unique and dynamic vignerons. Based in a small corner of the Languedoc near the Cévennes foothills, Jeff and his family are amongst the great pioneers of organic viticulture and natural wines in France. Having never sprayed chemicals on an inch of their land, the family has long defied the bulk-wine stereotype of the Languedoc. A benchmark producer in the region, Jeff expertly harnesses the vitality of the South of France without any of its overwrought, stereotypically weighty downsides. Joyful and utterly delicious, the immediacy of this Syrah makes it ideal for enjoyment all year round. With pronounced aromas of spice on the nose and remarkable finesse and length on the palate, this wine is evocative of the Northern Rhône’s finest.
