From Spain’s prestigious Ribera del Duero wine region, Matallana is one of Telmo Rodríguez’s most accomplished creations, perfectly illustrating his minimalist, artisanal approach. Intense garnet red with purple highlights, it opens with powerful, complex aromas of ripe black fruit, accompanied by spicy notes of black pepper, cocoa and vanilla. Subtle hints of tobacco, leather and damp earth complete this refined bouquet, revealing the ageing in finely measured oak casks. The finish is long and persistent, with notes of liquorice, cedar wood and a touch of smoke.
