Michael Schmelzer’s purpose in the vineyard is to ensure his grapes express the local terroir. He has studied his vineyards thoroughly, from soil to mesoclimate, and he is blessed with what he has. So, while the Tzingana is a Bordeaux blend led by international varieties, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the unique expression of this wine sets it far apart from the rest. Complex but deft aromatics of cassis, black pepper and damson plus a palate of both intensity and an ethereal quality make for a seriously engaging red.
