Sans The inaugural release of the Morris Tokay Barrel received a Double Gold at the 2022 San Francisco Worlds Spirits competition and a Master at the Spirits Business Luxury Masters, all in the same year. This second release builds on its predecessor’s success, picking up a Platinum at the USA SIP awards and a Gold at the International Spirits Challenge in 2023. Made from all Australian local ingredients and aged predominately in French oak x-red wine casks at Rutherglen, Victoria, the whisky was finished in barrels that held the family’s award-winning 15 year old Morris Cellar Reserve Grand Topaque (Tokay). The secondary maturation results in a whisky where Morris’s high quality distillate gives way to sweet, creamy fortified input, especially at the finish. It almost makes for a sticky end. Whoever did the blending knew when enough was enough, the toffee apple and sticky date are checked by low key tannins, toasty oak, iced tea, nougat and late milk chocolate.
