The nature of high-altitude (up to 2000 ft), cool, coastal Bordeaux blends is unique, defined by a superb balance of concentrated flavours, refreshing, mouth-watering acidity, and minerality. This utterly distinctive California Cabernet Sauvignon â€?sourced from old-vine plantings propagated from 19th-century Château Margaux cuttings â€?is delicious in its youth thanks to its moreish fruit and fine-grained tannins, yet is capable of ageing for decades and will richly reward patience.
97/100 â€?In 2017, the Mount Eden Cabernet is shockingly opulent. Inky black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, leather and incense are all dialed up in this super-sized Cabernet. Even so, there is plenty of structure lurking beneath. I can’t wait to see how this ages. â€?/em> Antonio Galloni, Vinous
93+/100 The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is dark and voluptuous, displaying the effects of the late-vintage heat wave. The nose is laden with deep, opulent, opaque fruits framed with clay dust, tobacco leaves, black pepper and dried leather. The palate is fresher than the nose would indicate, with concentrated fruit flavors taking center stage and relegating the typically vibrant acid structure to the background. The tannins are riper and less drying than normal, which will make for an interesting aging curve that only time will reveal. Lovers of a riper style will find this perfectly enjoyable, while classicists might opt for an alternative vintage. /em> Matthew Luczy, The Wine Advocate
