The elders of the village of Cucugnan named one parcel “Petite France”, because it was shaped like the hexagon of France. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 450 metres on the slopes of the clay-limestone mountains. The vines are certifiedorganicand are in the process of obtaining Biodynamic certification. Petite France is a 100% Carignan, 40% of which is vinified in whole bunches using natural (indigenous) yeasts, and benefits from a slow, gentle extraction process that ensures the best possible respect for the quality of the grapes. The wine is then matured for 12 months in 500-litre barrels, bringing suppleness and elegance to the tannins without altering the fruit. On tasting, the Carignan is a far cry from the rustic Carignan of yesteryear; on the contrary, it is one of the most refined. The palate is beautifully fresh and full-bodied, with gourmet notes of fresh, lightly toasted fruit.
