The elders of the village of Cucugnan named one parcel “Petite Franceâ€? because it was shaped like the hexagon of France. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 450 metres on the slopes of the clay-limestone mountains. The vines are certifiedorganicand are in the process of obtaining Biodynamic certification. Petite France is a 100% Carignan, 40% of which is vinified in whole bunches using natural (indigenous) yeasts, and benefits from a slow, gentle extraction process that ensures the best possible respect for the quality of the grapes. The wine is then matured for 12 months in 500-litre barrels, bringing suppleness and elegance to the tannins without altering the fruit. On tasting, the Carignan is a far cry from the rustic Carignan of yesteryear; on the contrary, it is one of the most refined. The palate is beautifully fresh and full-bodied, with gourmet notes of fresh, lightly toasted fruit.
