Get to know: Pieropan, Calvarino Soave Classico

Tasting Note

The first single vineyard wine produced in Soave in 1971, Calvarino is the name of a steep high-altitude vineyard in the Classico Soave area. The 30-60 year old Garganega and Trebbiano vines are grown organically on basalt-based soils. The Calvarino is pale straw yellow in colour with fresh, floral aromas of elderflower, lemon and cherry. The palate is dry, well balanced and elegant, with tremendous length and finesse. A superb expression of the kind of focused, precise wine Soave Classico can produce and a further example of quality and style of Pieropan wines.

Producer Info

Pieropan’s estate covers are 58 hecatres on the stony hillsides of Soave Classico. The family have been producing wines here since the 1890’s and were the first producer to ever bottle a wine with the name Soave on the label way back in the early 1930’s. So it’s fair to say they are masters of the region and since 2015 all of their wines are organically certified.

A blend of 70% Garganega , 30% Trebbiano di Soave.
