Get to know: Stefan Meyer Grauer Burgunder ‘Loess-Lehm’ Trocken 2023

Tasting Note

A seriously classy Pinot Gris from Germany’s Pfalz region, this is dry, textural, and packed with character. Expect aromas of cool minerals and roasted nuts, leading to a fresh and grippy palate with layers of ripe pear, stone fruit, and a hint of spice. The acidity is lively but balanced, keeping everything crisp and moreish, while the loess and clay soils add a subtle mineral edge. A proper food wine with a long, satisfying finish.

Kate Says

“If you think Pinot Gris is just soft and fruity, think again. This has weight, structure, and a bit of oomph – a proper grown-up white that’s still fresh and easy to drink. Perfect with a creamy leek tart or just on its own after a long day. One for those who like their whites with a bit of grip and texture.”

Producer Info

Stefan Meyer’s family has been making wine in the Pfalz for generations, but since taking over in 2011, he’s been bringing a fresh, modern touch to their historic vineyards. Working towards full organic certification, he keeps intervention low and lets the land speak for itself. The grapes for this wine come from small plots around Rhodt, grown on loess and clay soils, which bring depth and complexity. Fermented mostly in stainless steel for freshness, with a touch of oak for texture, this is a serious yet approachable example of what Grauer Burgunder can do.
