Originally known as Forest-Fourneaux with history dating back to 1734 and in 1932 Pierre Taittinger bought the House and the Taittinger label was born. A century of incredible growth saw Taittinger become one of the biggest producers and today is one of the last big independent, family-owned Houses. Pierre-Emmanuel retired in 2019 and was succeeded as President by his daughter Vitalie. They own 288-hectares of vineyards and the Taittinger style is the high percentage of Chardonnay. In 2017 Taittinger received two environmental accreditations: the ‘Viticulture Durable en Champagneâ€?(Sustainable vine-growing in Champagne) and the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE â€?High environmental sustainability.)rrThe blend is made from 50% Chardonnay grapes from the Côte des Blancs primarily from Avize and Le Mesnil sur Oger and 50% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims area including Mailly, Ambonnay. It is the speciality of the Grands Crus that bring precise characters to the wine such as its minerality. The nose is subtle and fresh. The initial mineral aromas quickly develop into green apple and ripe citrus with floral scents with hints of and spicy cinnamon. Flavours are dominated by intense fresh citrus fruit which then give way to a much fuller, well-bodied and mellow taste with flavours reminiscent of white peaches. The finish is long, rich and extremely expressive. Extremely great value since all the grapes are from the best and top rated Grand Cru villages of Champagne.
