Torbreck Woodcutters Semillon has a clear lemon hue, this medium bodied style offers delicate scents of lime and lemon, traces of bees wax, and toasted brioche. The pink skins of this robust, age-old ‘Madeira Cloneâ€?flesh out the palate lending notes of roasted cashew and white melon. A small portion of this wine was matured in seasoned French oak to add complexity to the crisp spine of fine acidity that is retained from fermentation in stainless steel.Although beautifully enjoyable in its youth, this wine will continue to increase in complexity well into the next decade.

Fashioned with the savoury, food friendly dry whites of Southern France in mind, the Woodcutter’s Semillon is the ideal tonic after a long day in the vineyard. This youthful Semillon offers delicate scents of calamansi, limestone, candle wax, and toasted brioche. Sourced from Torbrecks Kalimna, Rowland Flat & Seppeltsfield vineyards.

Semillon has always found a natural home in the Barossa. It was one of the early white wine grape varieties planted by the first settlers around 160 years ago and the Mediterranean climate and careful farming has created a heritage of old, low yielding Semillon vineyards. With the use of an age-old, robust, pink-skinned Madeira clone, found mainly in the Barossa, the Woodcutter’s â€?Semillon is reminiscent of the savoury white wines found in the central and southern regions of France.

The vintage had an above average winter rainfall led into a below average spring and summer rainfall, producing small bunches and small berries, leading to a reduced yield. Quality was certainly high, particular amongst our red varieties of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro. These wines will be remembered for their impressive colour, structure and longevity.

The Producer /h2>

Since it was founded in 1994 Torbreck has been on a quest to build one of the finest wine estates in the world. Today their vision pays homage to the vineyards of the Barossa Valley, home to some of the oldest vines on the planet.

Securing these vineyards initially involved share-farming the property, a practice which involves paying the owner a percentage of the marketrate for their grapes in return for managing the vineyard. It was this share-farmingprinciple, together with their selection of some of the most highly prized vineyards, that formed the founding pillars of Torbreck’s incredible international success. The vineyards, in particular, enabled them to source some of the very best fruit in the Barossa Valley, which is home to some of the oldest and most precious vines in the world. Provenance is everything to Torbreck. They believe that the Barossa Valley, with its gentle Mediterranean climate and 175 year history of Silesian and Englishwinemaking, is most exciting place in the world to make wine. There is a European sense of tradition here that means that vines planted in the 1840s â€?many of them Rhone varieties such as Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvédre â€?still thrive and bear fruit of unique concentration and flavour.

Today, Torbreck pays tribute to these vineyards with minimal intervention, creating wines of richness, structure and length that age gracefully.Whilst the company’s reputation is largely based around its red wines, they have also used the Descendant vineyard to plant Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne which are blended into white wine.Torbreck’s vision of creating a 100% estate-produced and bottledwine was realised in 2008 when a new winery and administrationfacility was opened on land acquired from a neighbouring property. Thisfacility enables the grapes to be handpicked, and vinified using the best and most modern equipment available. The wine is then matured in temperature controlled cellars and bottled ‘on the estateâ€?using a state-of-the art bottling line, before being shipped to many of the world’s best restaurants and fine wine retailers.
