The wines of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi â€?to the west of Ancona, about 30km from the Adriatic â€?can often lack somewhat in character, but when made by someone like the talented oenologist, Giuliano d’Ignazi, who heads up the wine making for the Moncaro co-operative at Montecarotto, it’s a different story altogether. This 100% Verdicchio, picked ultra-ripe at the beginning of October, is cool fermented to allow the fresh, honeyed aromatics to come to the full with a rich, zesty fruitiness. Delicious on it’s own but also a versatile match for fish, white meat and vegetable dishes.
